The treatment of craniosynostosis

Patients with suspected craniosynostosis are most often diagnosed on the basis of examination performed by a paediatrician, paediatric neurologist or physiotherapist. Before the treatment of craniosynostosis may begin, the patient must be examined with a physician specialized in neurosurgery. Informing the parents and their cooperation is essential for successful treatment. Then follows a consultation with an orthotic specialist; this also includes the initial scanning and taking photographs of the patient's head. The date of hospitalization and endoscopic surgery is scheduled. The length of hospitalization, which includes the surgery and preparation of the corrective orthosis, is seven days. The patients must also come for scheduled consultations with the physician after the orthosis has been made.
