Surgical treatment

The standard procedure in the treatment of craniosynostoses is skull-remodelling surgery.

The physician performs a skin incision leading from one ear to the other. The scalp is removed from the skull and the fused suture is released. Parts of the skull bones are removed and adjusted. The procedure is often associated with excessive blood loss, requiring blood transfusion. Also, the head is affected with a massive swelling following the procedure.
