Metoptic suture synostosis

Metopic suture is located in the middle of the forehead and reaches from the large anterior fontanelle to the base of the nose. It enables the growth of both frontal lobes forward and to the sides, and participates upon the formation of the orbit.metopicky

Premature fusion leads to a significant prominence of the metopic suture, the shape of the forehead resembles a keel, the head is of triangle shape when viewed from above.

This condition is called trigonocephaly. The eyes are placed too close to each other,

a condition which is referred to as hypotelorism. The eyes and eyelids bulge forward. Metopic craniosynostosis of a mild degree may be considered a cosmetic disorder only, with a normal course of further development.
