Lambdoid suture synostosis

Premature fusion of the lambdoid suture is frequently mistaken for flattening of the rear of the head caused by the position of the head, positional plagiocephaly. Synostosis of the lambdoid suture leads to a flattened rear of the head on one or lambdovyboth sides.

The protrusion on the top of the head is highlighted with compensatory growth. Contrary to positional plagiocephaly, the ear is moved forward and down. The shape of the head in this case is referred to as occipital plagiocephaly.
